About Sweet Mother International (SMI) - Côte d'Ivoire
Who We Are:
Sweet Mother International (SMI) Côte d'Ivoire is a dedicated chapter of a global non-profit organization committed to combating maternal mortality and promoting the health and well-being of mothers in our nation. We are a team of compassionate individuals united in our commitment to making childbirth a safe and joyful experience for all women in Côte d'Ivoire.
Our Mission:
Our mission is to significantly reduce the rate of maternal deaths in Côte d'Ivoire, particularly those resulting from pregnancy-related complications. We believe that every woman deserves the right to safe pregnancy and childbirth, and we are dedicated to making this a reality in Côte d'Ivoire.
Our Vision:
Our vision is a Côte d'Ivoire where maternal health is prioritized, and every woman can experience pregnancy and childbirth without fear of losing her life. We envision a country where all mothers and their newborns have the best possible start in life.
Maternal Mortality Crisis in Africa:
According to a report by the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Africa, Africa is the only region where there has been no improvement in maternal deaths for more than a decade. The maternal mortality ratio has alarmingly increased, underscoring the urgent need for action. Read the full WHO report here.
The "SAVE" Campaign Objectives:
To raise awareness and reduce the high rates of pregnancy-related deaths in Africa.
To collaborate with the Ivorian government and international partners to provide free and efficient obstetric care, especially for rural women.
To establish emergency intervention units for timely medical assistance.
To contribute towards the United Nation’s Millennium Development Goal of improving maternal health by reducing maternal mortality by 75%.
Our Call to Action:
In line with the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon's statement, "in the 21st century, no woman should give her life to give life," we call upon everyone to join our efforts. Together, we can make significant strides in eradicating avoidable maternal deaths in Côte d'Ivoire.
Seeking Partnership with the Ivorian Government:
We commend the responsiveness of the Ivorian government in addressing national development challenges and trust in their support for our cause. We invite the government and all citizens to join us in this vital campaign.
